As little data as possible. And honest about which.

Ondira needs to know whether you checked in. Nothing more. So we only store what that takes, keep the history for 14 days and earn our money from Ondira Plus, not from your data.

What we store, and what we don’t

The full, legally binding version is our privacy policy at /en/privacy/. Here is the short version in plain English.

What Ondira stores

  • Account data: name and email address
  • Check-in history is normally kept for 14 days. Longer retention may be necessary for security, disputes, billing or legal reasons. The privacy policy explains the details.
  • Your rule settings: rhythm, deadline, tiers
  • The trusted contacts you add yourself
  • Your location at check-in, but only if you switch that on
  • Technical device data and subscription data, as far as needed to run the service

What Ondira does not store

  • No health data
  • No advertising identifiers
  • No movement history and no live tracking in the background
  • No camera or microphone recordings
  • Nothing to sell on, because we don’t sell data

Which service providers are involved, and why

No service runs without infrastructure. These four providers process data on our behalf, each only for its own task.

  • Supabase

The backend: your account, rules, contacts and check-in history are stored and processed here.

  • AWS SES

Sends the emails, both reminders to you and notifications to your contacts.

  • Firebase

Delivers push notifications to your phone, such as the reminder after a missed deadline.

  • RevenueCat

Manages the Ondira Plus subscription via the App Store and Google Play. Payment details themselves go through Apple or Google.

Server region, encryption, deletion

Server region: Switzerland. The backend and database holding your account, check-ins and contacts (Supabase) run in Switzerland. Email delivery (AWS SES), push notifications (Firebase, Apple) and subscription management (RevenueCat) are handled by providers that may also process data outside Switzerland. The privacy policy has the details.

Encryption and protection: all connections between the app, the server and our providers are encrypted. On top of that come access controls, authentication, and credentials that are never stored in the app itself.

You can delete your account yourself in the app at any time, under Settings. Account data, rules and contacts are then deleted or anonymised within a reasonable period. If you can no longer get into the app, write to support@ondira.app. Billing records may be kept longer for legal reasons.

You can also exercise your rights of access, correction, deletion and data portability by writing to support@ondira.app.

What people often ask about their data

Does Ondira know where I am?
Ondira never follows you and never locates you in the background. Only if you switch it on yourself does the app send your location once, at the moment you check in, so your contacts know where to look in an emergency; only the latest one is kept, with no continuous tracking and no history.
If it’s free, am I the product?
No. The free version costs nothing; Ondira is funded by Ondira Plus at CHF 3 a month or CHF 30 a year. No ads in the app, no advertising identifiers, no data sales.
My contacts never agreed to have their address stored.
Their email address is only used to notify them if your check-in doesn’t arrive. If they’d rather not be listed, they can tell you and you remove them in the app. It’s best to talk to them before you add them.
What happens to my data if I stop?
You delete your account in the app and the data is removed or anonymised. A running subscription is cancelled separately in the App Store or on Google Play, because deleting the account doesn’t end it automatically.
Could my children or my employer use it to monitor me?
No. Contacts cannot see your daily routine and cannot locate you. They only hear from Ondira when a sign of life is missing; only then does their email include the location of your last check-in, and only if you switched that feature on. You add the contacts yourself and can change them at any time.

What Ondira is not

  • Not a tracking app

Ondira never follows you and never locates you in the background. Only if you switch it on yourself does the app send your location once, at the moment you check in, so your contacts know where to look in an emergency; only the latest one is kept, with no continuous tracking and no history.

  • Not an advertising business

No ads, no advertising identifiers, nothing passed to data brokers. Our business model is Ondira Plus.

  • Not an emergency service or medical device

Ondira measures nothing and calls no one. In an emergency in Switzerland: ambulance 144, European emergency number 112, Rega 1414.
