Terms of Service
Last updated: 24 October 2026
These terms govern your use of Ondira. Please read the section “What Ondira does not do” carefully: Ondira is a check-in app, not an emergency service. In an emergency, always call 144 or 112 first. Ondira does not replace emergency services.
Scope and who you contract with
These terms apply to the Ondira app for iPhone, iPad and Android, the web check-in, and all related notifications and subscriptions (together “Ondira” or the “Service”).
Your contracting party is diehm it-services, owned by Daniel Diehm, a sole proprietorship, Zenhaeusernstrasse 48, 3902 Brig-Glis, Switzerland, email: support@ondira.app (“we” or “us”).
These terms form part of the agreement only if they are made available before the agreement is concluded and you consent to their application. Mere use does not replace any required consent. Purchases through Apple or Google are also subject to their respective platform terms.
You must be at least 18 years old and have legal capacity to use Ondira.
What Ondira does
Ondira is a check-in app. You choose a rhythm and a time, and confirm with a single tap in the app that you are fine. Depending on your settings, you can also check in through a web link, for example if your phone is not to hand.
If you miss a check-in, this is what happens:
- Ondira first reminds you yourself, by push notification and email.
- A grace period then begins. By default it lasts 120 minutes, and you can adjust it.
- If you still have not checked in, your trusted contacts receive an email, in staggered groups.
- Your contacts do not need the app or an account, only an email address.
- If you turn it on, the location you last shared when checking in is included in the email to your contacts. No location is requested between check-ins.
What Ondira does not do (service limits)
In an emergency, always call 144 or 112 first. Ondira does not replace emergency services.
Ondira is not an emergency service, not a personal alarm or telecare service, not a medical device and not an emergency call centre. Ondira does not alert ambulance, police or any dispatch centre. Nobody monitors your account around the clock. Ondira only notices that a check-in is missing and then emails the contacts you have chosen. Ondira does not detect emergencies, falls, illness or accidents.
Even when a message arrives, we cannot guarantee that it will be read, or that your contacts will be reachable and respond. How your contacts respond is up to them. Ondira does not coordinate or verify any help.
You remain responsible for choosing a suitable rhythm, keeping your contacts up to date, and letting them know that they may hear from Ondira and what they should do if they do. Do not rely on Ondira as your only safety measure.
We cannot guarantee that push notifications and emails will be delivered, or delivered on time. Delivery depends on, among other things:
- your internet connection and that of your contacts;
- your device, its battery level and its operating system settings (for example notifications turned off, battery saver or focus modes);
- your and your contacts’ email providers, in particular their spam filters;
- third parties such as Apple, Google, our email delivery service and our hosting provider.
Free version and Ondira Plus
The free version costs nothing and is not limited in time. It includes a daily check-in at a fixed rhythm, a reminder to you, an email to one trusted contact and, optionally, your location at check-in.
Ondira Plus costs CHF 3 per month or CHF 30 per year. It adds up to 20 trusted contacts in three groups, a check-in rhythm of every 8 or 12 hours and a weekly schedule, snoozing reminders by 15 minutes and a pause mode (24 hours or 3 days).
These prices apply in Switzerland and include any applicable VAT. In other countries, the App Store or Google Play shows a price in your local currency. The price shown to you in the store before purchase is the one that applies.
Nobody is moved into a paid plan automatically: you only get Ondira Plus if you buy it yourself in the store. The features and limits of both versions may evolve. We will tell you in advance about material changes affecting the free version or an active subscription.
Subscription, payment and cancellation
Ondira Plus is purchased, billed, renewed and ordinarily cancelled exclusively through the Apple App Store or Google Play. We use RevenueCat to manage subscription status technically. We do not receive your payment details.
Your subscription renews automatically for the same term (one month or one year) unless you cancel it in your store account in good time. It can be cancelled with effect from the end of the current term. Cancellation must follow the rules of the relevant platform, which usually means at least 24 hours before renewal.
Important: deleting your Ondira account does not cancel your subscription. Please cancel it separately in your Apple or Google account.
Refunds for store purchases will be processed through Apple or Google where possible. Platform rules do not restrict your statutory rights against us. If the Service is discontinued or access withdrawn, the refund provisions in “Term, account deletion and termination” also apply.
Price changes for existing subscriptions require a valid agreement with you and compliance with platform rules. Statutory termination and refund rights remain unaffected.
Trusted contacts
Contacts first receive an invitation. They become available for escalation emails, including test emails, only after explicitly agreeing to receive these messages and to try to reach the user if an escalation occurs. Accepting the invitation verifies access to the invited mailbox; it does not guarantee availability or a response. No Ondira account or app installation is required.
Consent applies to the relationship between the user and the invited email address. Changing that address requires new consent. Pending contacts count towards the applicable contact limit but are not available for escalations. Existing contacts must also give consent before receiving further escalation emails.
Contacts may decline an invitation or withdraw from this user’s contact role at any time using the management link in invitation and escalation emails, even after an escalation has closed. Withdrawal also covers duplicate entries for the same user and email address. Further escalation emails are blocked; messages already submitted to the email provider cannot be recalled.
The user is informed of a withdrawal and the number of remaining eligible, confirmed contacts by email, by push notification where technically possible, and by an in-app notice that must be acknowledged. These safety notices are sent independently of app notification preferences. Device permissions and technical delivery limitations still apply.
If no eligible, confirmed contact remains, monitoring and ongoing escalations are automatically paused. Acknowledging a notice or receiving a contact’s consent does not reactivate monitoring. The user must explicitly reactivate it once at least one eligible, confirmed contact is available; a new future check-in interval then begins. Previous escalations are not resumed.
Invitations are valid for seven days. Manual resends are limited to one every 24 hours and three within seven days. After an invitation is declined or a contact withdraws, another invitation is possible only after 30 days; deleting and recreating the entry does not bypass this period. Invitation and confirmation pages explain Ondira and may link to using the service yourself; accepting a contact role does not subscribe you to a newsletter or marketing emails.
Accepting the contact role is separate from confirmation during an individual escalation. Status links provide only limited case information and the confirmation offered there; they do not grant access to account settings. Contacts act through their own channels, such as calling, messaging or visiting, and contact emergency services where appropriate. Ondira does not coordinate or verify their response.
Your obligations
When using Ondira, you agree in particular:
- to provide correct and up-to-date information, especially your own email address and those of your contacts;
- to add only people as trusted contacts who have agreed to it;
- to explain to your contacts how Ondira works and what a message from Ondira means;
- to check that notifications are allowed on your device and that reminders reach you;
- to protect your account, your email account and your device from access by others;
- to act yourself and call emergency services immediately if you or someone else may be in danger.
Acceptable use
Ondira is meant for people who check in themselves. If you set up Ondira for someone else, for example a parent, you may only do so with the consent of the person who will be checking in. Ondira must not be used to monitor anyone covertly.
We grant you a personal, non-transferable and revocable right to use Ondira under these terms. The app, texts, designs and trademarks remain the property of us or our licensors.
In particular, you must not:
For professional use, Ondira is only an additional check-in for low-risk activities. It does not replace the employer’s risk assessment or rescue arrangements, nor any required monitoring or personal emergency signalling system. Use to monitor behaviour or performance is prohibited. Employees must be informed transparently; their statutory participation and data protection rights remain unaffected.
- use Ondira for unlawful, harassing or deceptive purposes, for example to send unwanted messages to others;
- enter anyone’s contact details without their consent;
- attack, overload, circumvent or reverse engineer the Service, except where the law expressly permits it;
- misuse or pass on links from our emails (for example for the web check-in or the status page);
- offer Ondira to third parties as a professional emergency, alarm or monitoring service, or resell it without our written consent.
Availability and changes to the Service
We must provide the agreed Service and legally required updates. Uninterrupted availability cannot be assured technically. Maintenance, security updates and outages may temporarily restrict the Service; your statutory rights remain unaffected.
Beyond required updates, we may modify the Service for these valid reasons: addressing specific security risks or misuse, adapting to changed legal or technical requirements, or maintaining compatibility with supported operating systems or necessary interfaces. Such changes will not incur additional costs for you. We will explain the change clearly.
If a change impairs access or usability by more than a minor amount, we will inform you by email reasonably in advance of its content, reason, date and your termination right. You may terminate the affected agreement free of charge within 30 days after receiving that information or, if later, implementation of the change. This does not apply if we keep the unchanged Service available to you without additional cost. Prepaid services no longer provided will be refunded proportionately; further statutory rights remain unaffected.
This section does not authorise changes to the price or agreed main services. Those require a separate agreement under “Changes to these terms”.
The app briefly needs an internet connection to check in. If you will be offline for a longer time, set your rhythm accordingly beforehand.
Liability
We are liable under applicable law for damage culpably caused by us, our legal representatives or persons assisting us in performing our obligations. This includes our own software, configuration and operational errors in sending reminders or notifications. There is no blanket exclusion for messages that are missing, late or misdirected.
We do not exclude or limit liability for intentional or grossly negligent conduct, or for culpably caused death or injury to body or health.
The technical limitations described above do not exempt us from liability. Our responsibility for failures of networks, devices or third-party providers is governed by applicable law. Our own duties concerning selection, integration, security and operation, and any statutory responsibility for persons assisting us, remain unaffected.
Privacy
How we handle your data and that of your contacts is described in our privacy policy at ondira.app/en/privacy/.
Term, account deletion and termination
This agreement runs for an indefinite period. You can end it at any time by deleting your account in the app or by writing to support@ondira.app. An active subscription must be cancelled separately in the store (see “Subscription, payment and cancellation”).
We may suspend your account or terminate the agreement for good cause, in particular in the event of a serious or repeated breach of these terms, misuse, or use that puts other people or the Service at risk. Where possible, we will inform you beforehand.
If we discontinue Ondira altogether, we will give reasonable notice.
Once your account is deleted, we delete or anonymise your data in line with our privacy policy, unless we are legally required to keep it.
If we discontinue the Service or permanently withdraw access to a paid service for a reason for which you are not responsible, we will refund the prepaid price proportionately for the period no longer provided. Your statutory rights in the event of temporary suspension or other service failures remain unaffected. Refunds will be processed through the store where possible; otherwise, contact support@ondira.app. A refusal by the store does not extinguish a claim against us. Any refund already received will be taken into account.
Changes to these terms
Amendments to these terms may be needed following changes in law, binding decisions by authorities or courts, or changes to technical processes or features. Such a reason alone does not entitle us to amend existing agreements unilaterally.
We will offer changes to your contractual rights or obligations, particularly price, main services or liability, in advance by email, explaining the changes, their reason and proposed date. Changes to an existing agreement require your express consent. Silence or continued use does not constitute consent. Without consent, the previously agreed terms continue to apply; statutory termination rights remain unaffected.
We may make editorial clarifications that do not change your rights or obligations. Changes to the Service are also subject to the section “Availability and changes to the Service”.
Governing law and jurisdiction
These terms are governed by Swiss law, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG).
The place of jurisdiction is Brig-Glis, Switzerland. Mandatory places of jurisdiction for consumers remain reserved.
If any provision of these terms is invalid, the remaining provisions remain in force.
This choice of law does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory consumer provisions of the country of your habitual residence that would apply without this choice.
